Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Atlas of Life mobile application (the "Service") operated by Atlas of Life ("we", "us", "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has read and accepted these Terms on your behalf.

2. Your Account

• You may create an optional account via email or Apple/Google sign-in to sync your progress across devices.
• You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
• You may delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete account. This permanently erases your stats, streak, subscription binding, and account record.

3. Subscriptions and Payments

3.1 Plans

The Service offers auto-renewing subscriptions:

• Explorer — a monthly subscription that unlocks the puzzle archive, removes ads, and grants unlimited replays.
• Cartographer — an annual subscription that includes everything in Explorer at a discounted rate.

Current pricing is displayed in the app at the time of purchase.

3.2 Billing

• Payment is processed by Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), not by us.
• Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings.

3.3 Free Tier

Without a paid subscription, the Service is free to use with limitations, including a daily puzzle, optional rewarded ads that grant in-game gems, and interstitial ads. The free tier may change at any time without notice.

3.4 Refunds

Refunds are handled by the store where the purchase was made:

• Apple: support.apple.com/billing
• Google: support.google.com/googleplay/payments

We do not issue refunds directly and cannot reverse store-charged transactions.

3.5 Restoration

If you reinstall the app or switch devices, tap Profile → Restore purchase to re-sync your subscription.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise extract source code or content.
• Attempt to bypass subscription, ad, or paywall restrictions.
• Use bots, scripts, or automated means to access the Service.
• Interfere with the Service's servers, ads, or analytics.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.

We may suspend or terminate access for any violation.

5. User Content

The Service does not currently allow user-generated content. Gameplay stats (e.g. wins, streaks) are stored to provide the Service and are not shared publicly.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including the Atlas of Life name, logo, art, puzzles, historical data compilation, and software, is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. The historical map data is derived from open sources under their respective licenses (see the in-app Sources screen for attributions).

7. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with Apple, Google, Supabase, RevenueCat, and Google AdMob. Their respective terms and policies apply when their services are used.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
• Historical information or attributions are complete or perfectly accurate.
• Any errors will be corrected.

You use the Service at your own risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, income, or profits, arising out of your use of the Service — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. You may stop using the Service at any time.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where required, within the app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
